About
Technology is only useful when it solves a real problem.
ISTALIF was founded on a simple observation: most organisations do not need more software. They need software that matches how they work.
We work in the space between business processes and engineering — close enough to the work to understand it, and technical enough to build the answer.
Between two worlds
Organisations looking for digital help usually meet one of two kinds of supplier. Consultants who can describe what should change but cannot build it — and developers who build exactly what they are asked for without questioning whether it solves the underlying problem.
ISTALIF works between those worlds: understand the challenge, design the solution, build the technology. The same people who sat in the workshop write the code, which means the reasoning behind a decision survives the journey from analysis to implementation.
What we believe
Technology should solve a real problem. If a project cannot be explained in terms of the work it changes, it is not ready to start.
Digitalisation starts with people and processes. The interesting part of a system is rarely the technology. It is understanding how the work is actually done, including the parts nobody documented.
Software should fit the organisation. Adapting an organisation to generic software is sometimes right, but it should be a decision, not a default.
Complex technology should produce simpler work. If the people using a system have to think about it, the complexity has been pushed in the wrong direction.
You should understand what you depend on. We build on ordinary, well-documented technology and hand over documentation, so operating a system does not require us.
How we work with clients
We work with sole traders and with large organisations, and the process is the same in structure: understand the work, agree what is worth changing, build in visible steps, and improve based on real use. What differs is scale, not seriousness.
We say no to projects we do not think will work. That is usually cheaper for everyone than finding out later.
Have a process that should work better?
Tell us how it works today. We will tell you honestly whether technology is the answer — and what it would take.
